Forex VPS for FP Markets Traders: Which Server Location Cuts Your Latency

You have two tabs open. One shows a London VPS plan. The other shows New York. Your FP Markets account trades mostly during the European session, but you are not sure if that even matters for server choice. It does, and here is the direct answer.

For most FP Markets traders, the right forex VPS location depends on which trading server your account connects to, not simply which trading session you trade in. FP Markets uses Equinix infrastructure for its trading servers, including NY4 and LD4. The best VPS location depends on the trading server your account connects to, so testing latency is more reliable than choosing a location based solely on your trading session. Matching your VPS location to the same facility, or one physically close to it, reduces the distance your orders travel.

We run Forex VPS Hosting with cross-connection latency starting from 0.3ms across financial hubs including London, New York, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Chicago, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Below, we walk through how to pick between London and New York, what a dedicated server adds on top of a standard VPS, and where the real limits sit.

Which Server Location Actually Cuts Latency for FP Markets Traders?

Latency depends on physical distance and the number of network hops between your VPS and your broker’s execution infrastructure or liquidity providers. A VPS located in the same city, or close to the same data centre campus, as your broker’s execution server can reduce the network distance your orders travel.

FP Markets’ trading servers are located in Equinix NY4 and LD4. If you are choosing between a London or New York VPS, test latency to your specific FP Markets trading server to determine which location provides the shorter connection. A London VPS can be a closer match for an account connecting to LD4, while a New York VPS can be a closer match for an account connecting to NY4.

If you are not certain which session drives most of your trading volume, check your own trade history first. Testing the connection to your FP Markets trading server is more reliable than choosing a location based on where the broker’s head office sits.

Both locations run on the same underlying network standard on our side. The difference is not in server quality. It is in which one sits closer to the execution path your account actually uses most of the time.

In our own testing, a sample of eight FP Markets MT4 servers, covering both the FPMarkets-Live group (First Prudential Markets Pty Ltd) and the FPMarketsSC-Live group (First Prudential Markets Limited), showed several servers routing through New York. Measured latency from a New York-based VPS came in well under 1ms, averaging around 0.7ms to 0.8ms.

Which of these servers your own account connects to depends on your entity and account type, and this can only be confirmed inside your own FP Markets client portal. If your account sits on one of the servers above, or another in the same group, New York is the location worth testing first.

Do I Need a Standard VPS or a Dedicated Forex Server for FP Markets?

This depends on how many terminals and strategies you run at once, not on which broker you use. A standard VPS provides allocated virtual CPU and RAM resources, while a dedicated forex server provides dedicated physical resources.

If you run one or two EAs on a single FP Markets account, a standard VPS plan is usually enough. If you run multiple accounts, several EAs simultaneously, or a scalping strategy sensitive to CPU contention during news spikes, a Dedicated Forex Server provides dedicated physical resources without sharing the underlying machine with other VPS tenants.

A dedicated server is not automatically faster in terms of network latency. It is more consistent under heavy load, which matters more for scalping than for a single EA running quietly in the background.

Is FP Markets Compatible With cTrader VPS Hosting?

FP Markets supports cTrader alongside MT4 and MT5. If cTrader is your main platform, it can also be hosted on a Windows VPS for continuous operation. Running cAlgo bots or copy-trading setups on cTrader has the same latency sensitivity as running an EA on MetaTrader, since both depend on a fast, stable connection to the broker’s execution server.

If cTrader is your main platform rather than MT4 or MT5, it is worth reading our full breakdown of cTrader brokers with VPS hosting before choosing a plan, since platform choice can affect which server specification actually makes sense for your strategy.

What Actually Matters for Scalping on FP Markets?

Scalping strategies are the least forgiving when it comes to latency and CPU consistency. For latency-sensitive strategies, even small delays can affect order execution timing, especially in fast-moving market conditions.

For FP Markets scalpers, low latency to the relevant trading server and sufficient CPU resources are important considerations, particularly during periods of higher trading activity. A shared VPS with modest specs can still work for light scalping, but a strategy that places high trade volume in short windows will benefit more from dedicated resources than from any other single upgrade.

The Honest Trade-Off

No VPS provider, including us, can guarantee an exact millisecond figure for your specific FP Markets account without you testing it first. Published latency ranges are a starting point, not a personal guarantee. That is why we let you check actual routing before you commit to a full annual plan rather than asking you to take our word for it.

Before You Choose a Plan

If you already use FP Markets’ own broker-sponsored VPS and it works for your current volume, there is a fair question here. Broker-sponsored VPS access may be subject to eligibility requirements, such as account or trading-volume criteria, depending on the broker. An independent VPS costs money regardless of your trading volume, but it stays yours if your activity drops, and it lets you run other brokers or platforms on the same server if your strategy changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does FP Markets support MT4, MT5 and cTrader on a VPS?
Yes. FP Markets supports MT4, MT5 and cTrader, and these platforms can be run on a Windows Server VPS.

Is London or New York better for FP Markets scalping?
Neither is universally better. Match the location to the FP Markets trading server your account connects to, and test the latency from each available VPS location before choosing.

Do I need a dedicated server if I only run one EA?
Usually not. A standard VPS plan with guaranteed resources is normally enough for one or two EAs on a single account, and moving to dedicated hardware mainly pays off once you are running multiple accounts or strategies simultaneously.

Can I switch VPS locations later if my trading session changes?
This depends on your provider’s setup process, so check migration terms before you sign an annual plan if you expect your trading hours to shift.

Will a VPS fix slippage on FP Markets trades entirely?
No. It reduces the network delay in your order path, but slippage also depends on market volatility and liquidity conditions at the moment you trade, so treat lower latency as a risk reducer rather than a guarantee.
